If you’re in the market for a high-quality crossbow that isn’t too expensive, you’ll enjoy this Barnett Jackal Crossbow review. We’re going to take a look at the features of this popular model and also talk about its price and how other hunters feel about it. Once you’ve discovered this product, you’ll be able to make a wise and informed decision about whether or not it’s right for you.

My Experiences After One Month of Owning the Jackal

I have found this crossbow to be extremely accurate and you should have no trouble at all killing deer at upwards of 50 yards. When I sighted this crossbow in it took me only 4 shots to have it zeroed in at 25 yards. After the initial sight in, it was shooting groups the size of a half dollar shot after shot.

Red Dot Scope Included

In this image you can see the exact view you would have while looking through the scope on the Barnett Jackal crossbow.

This red dot scope that comes standard with the Barnett jackal crossbow is top quality. This scope has two color options to choose from, red and green. It has 3 dots and multiple settings for different light levels. If it is a bright sunny day you will want the dot set to the highest setting. If you are hunting in low light levels, it is best to have the scope on a more dim setting. During my hunting experience with this Jackal x-bow, I will typically turn it down to the lowest setting (setting #1) for the last hour of daylight. I prefer to use the green colored dots, because it seems like they are more crisp and clear for my eyes. It can be tricky to see deer through the scope in those last few minutes of legal shooting time. In order to help you shoot in very low light it is best to shoot with both eyes open. This will allow you to see your target much better than by closing 1 eye and looking through the scope.

Shown here are the 3 green dots used for aiming with this scope. The top dot is used for close shots and each consecutive lower dot is for shooting further out.

To keep this impressive crossbow in peak condition, store it indoors, in a place with temperature control. Also, be sure to wax your string occasionally and put wax on the slide after you take 5-10 shots. Aside from these two tasks, you’ll find that this product is very low-maintenance. This is one of the reasons why it’s such a big hit with consumers.

One other tip is to ensure that odd-colored arrow fletching is downwards while you’re loading. This design comes with a user’s manual, so you should have no trouble mastering the art of using this device. This bow is a powerful weapon for any hunter and it’s affordable enough to be a cost-effective option for many consumers. This is a great review of the Barnett Jackal crossbow. It is on my short list of crossbows to buy. They do seem like they are one of the best deals out there for the money. I’ll hopefully have one by the time the whitetail rut starts in a couple weeks. I have a normal compound, but these crossbows seem like they make it a lot easier to pull off the shot. I have always had trouble getting my compound pulled back without getting spotted by the deer. A crossbow would surely eliminate that problem. Thanks for the great review. Darell

Darell, thanks for stopping by. You are correct, this crossbow is in fact a great deal for the money. The current cost at Amazon is less than 250$ That is very inexpensive for a quality crossbow with all of the accessories included.

How often do you wax the string and rail on this crossbow? Just curious.. I love mine, I’ve only had it for a week but your review is what finally convinced me to get it. So far I have no trouble shooting out past 50 yards, this was never possible with my old compound! Stan

Stan, you should wax the crossbow rail and string often. If you don’t you could easily do damage to your string. Every couple shots I would look closely and see if your rail and string are drying out. I hope you enjoy your new toy!
