Primos Bottleneck Grunt Call Review

Using the Primos bottleneck grunt call.

Perhaps one of the most effective ways to bring in a buck during the early rut is with a grunt call. My personal favorite is the Primos bottleneck grunt call. I have used this for a couple seasons now and let me tell you this beauty can bring in deer! It has several settings to change the tone, but my favorite is the TB (trophy buck setting). If you want to hear this call in action you can see it in my rut hunt video filmed last week.

What I like About the Primos Bottleneck Call

  • Rubberized design makes it fairly quiet when it bumps your gun or bow.
  • Makes a variety of sounds from bucks to doe calls.
  • Has a great tone that really calls in bucks!
  • This call has never frozen up on me yet!

My Success With this Deer Call

Over the years I have tried dozens of different deer calls. Some tend to freeze up once you use them a lot, some don’t. Just about and game call will seize up a bit if you use it a ton and the weather is very cold. Moisture just freezes at sub zero temps..But this call has not done it to me yet! If you have it around your neck you should always put it inside of your shirt to keep it warm, but this will also prevent it from getting in the way of your bow string. I would recommend never using any type of lanyard while bowhunting, because if that bow string impacts the call around your neck during the shot, you’ll be in big trouble. Not only will it cause you to miss your shot, it could leave you injured!!Personally I always keep it in my pants pocket where it stays warm and out of the way.

I am quite picky when it comes to the perfect tone of a deer call. Probably the most important feature for me in any call is it’s ability to sound like a real deer. The Primos bottleneck call accomplishes that goal perfectly. I have shot 2 deer in the last few years that I would not have been able to harvest without the use of this call.

The Bottom Line

This deer call has all of the features I look for in a great grunt call. It has great sound, is not that large and it just plain works! If you’ve been hunting for a great grunt call that will bring in the deer and will do it with style, the Primos bottleneck might be the best call for you.

I have used a bunch of Primos calls in the past with good results. Perhaps I’ll give the bottleneck call a try. It looks nice and I also like the sound of it in your video. I will be impressed if it doesn’t freeze in very cold weather.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Primos calls. I have both the bottleneck and the rubberneck calls. Thanks for this review
